Can I cancel or modify my succession plan?
Yes, absolutely. You can add or remove beneficiaries, change permissions, adjust your heartbeat schedule, or disable succession entirely at any time. You're always in complete control.
What if I accidentally miss a check-in?
We send multiple reminders before succession activates. You'll receive warnings via email, SMS, and push notifications. There's also a grace period (configurable from 7-90 days) before the process begins. If you respond to any reminder, the timer resets.
How do you prevent someone from impersonating a beneficiary?
Beneficiaries must verify their identity through multiple channels: email verification, government ID upload (optional), and multi-factor authentication. There's also a waiting period (30-90 days) during which you can cancel the transfer if you're still alive. All access attempts are logged and auditable.
Can RacterVault access my files during succession?
No. Your files remain encrypted end-to-end throughout the entire process. We use threshold cryptography to split your succession key into multiple encrypted shares. When succession triggers, these shares are recombined and transferred to verified beneficiaries—but we never have access to the complete key or your decrypted data.
What happens if RacterVault shuts down?
You can export your encrypted data and succession configuration at any time. We're also planning to open-source our client code, allowing you to decrypt your data independently. In the unlikely event of shutdown, we'll provide 90 days notice and tools to migrate your succession plan to another service or self-hosted solution.
Is succession planning included in all plans?
Basic succession (1 beneficiary, quarterly heartbeat) is included in all paid plans. Premium and Enterprise plans offer unlimited beneficiaries, flexible heartbeat schedules, and advanced features like legal document verification and multi-stage succession.
